Who Am I?

Hey! My name is Alex and this is my blog, Living as a Mutation with BRCA2.

In July 2015 when I was 20 years old, I found out that I was positive for the BRCA2 mutation just like my mom. What that essentially means is that this mutation increases my chance of getting breast and ovarian cancer by 40% – 85%  over the course of my life, which is 3 to 5 times greater than the average person.

There are many reasons as to why I wanted to start this blog but I’ll just name two of them. 1. It is definitely a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings about this weight that is constantly on my shoulders and the “struggles” that come along with it. 2. This blog can also be a guidance for people who are going through the same thing I am.

What are you going to find on this blog? My thoughts, my feelings, my perspectives, and my stories on how this BRCA2 mutation has changed my life.

So, buckle up and get ready to go on a long roller coaster ride with me 🙂
